As the Turkish consortium announced in the last few months, prototypes of future Turkish “domestic” cars are being presented in Turkey today. Just because of this national car project – back in 2015, Turkey purchased the Saab 9-3 platform rights from NEVS for 40 million euros, after 6 months of negotiations. The plan was for a new national car to appear on the streets as early as 2020, but since the project was repeatedly delayed, only today – on the eve of 2020 – the first prototype was unveiled.
Many critics of the Turkish regime then accused the then technology minister that the new national car would not be “100% original”. Nevertheless, even then the Minister of Technology indicated that it would be a completely original product and will be admirable and will meet the needs of the Turkish people. Saab’s platform and assistance from NEVS engineers were just the initial step in achieving the ultimate goal of the Turkey government.
Although the project is delayed, a Turkish consortium comprising 5 key companies today unveiled the first prototype from the C-SUV segment, and the sedan variant, which was certainly influenced by NEVS’s Saab 9-3, was also virtually introduced.
